At Knives and Stones, we take great care in offering only the finest handmade Japanese knives and accessories, and every item is inspected before dispatch. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, the terms below apply.

1. Change-of-mind returns & exchanges

We accept returns and exchanges within 30 days of delivery, provided the item is unused and in its original, resellable condition.

There is no handling or restocking fee on returns.

You are responsible for arranging safe return shipping, and the original outbound shipping cost (including the actual shipping cost on orders that shipped free) is deducted from the refund.

Once the returned item has been received and inspected, you may choose a refund to your original payment method or store credit.

Products with custom variations (unique handles, engravings, custom profiles) and special orders are non-refundable.

Handmade knives vary: small imperfections, differences in wood grain and variations in damascus pattern are normal and are not defects. Packaging may differ from other vendors; this is not grounds for return.

2. Faulty or damaged items

If your product arrives damaged or defective, we accept full responsibility. We will provide a prepaid return label and a replacement or full refund at no cost to you. No handling fee applies.

3. K&S coupons

K&S coupons (including KNSR reward coupons) are one-off and cannot be refunded or reissued, unless the product is faulty.

4. Refund processing

Refunds are processed once the returned product has been received and inspected.

If you request a cancellation before dispatch, we are happy to oblige. Even when we cancel and refund immediately, your bank may take up to 2 weeks to return the funds — payment processing times are controlled by your financial institution.

5. International orders

Customs duties, taxes and fees are non-refundable.

Return shipping remains your responsibility unless the product is faulty or incorrect.

At Knives and Stones, we proudly deliver premium kitchen knives and sharpening stones worldwide from our Sydney warehouse. Some heavier items (e.g. hibachi grills, woks and large cutting boards) are available for domestic delivery only.

3. International shipping, customs, taxes & duties

If a shipping option is available at checkout, we can ship to your country. You are responsible for ensuring the item is legally importable (e.g. wood type, knife length). If customs refuse entry, any return or additional shipping costs are your responsibility.

You are responsible for paying any import taxes, duties or fees imposed by your country.

Customs may occasionally apply fees beyond standard import taxes (e.g. inspection or re-delivery fees). These remain the customer's responsibility.

4. Shipping options

1) Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) — “I will handle tax myself”

You are responsible for clearing customs and paying any taxes or duties on arrival.

In some countries (e.g. Germany), you may need to collect your package from a designated post office or customs facility.

Pros: in some cases, packages pass through customs without additional charges.

Cons: if duties are applied, you bear the cost and the inconvenience.

2) Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) — “Taxes and duties included”

Taxes and duties are prepaid at checkout.

Minimal customs delays; stress-free delivery.

Pros: no surprise charges, smoother delivery.

Cons: more expensive; shipments do not bypass customs.

Availability: Western Europe, the US and Canada support DDP. All other regions ship via DDU only.
DDU services: Australia Post EMS, DHL Express
DDP services: DHL Express

Change-of-mind returns and exchanges are accepted within 30 days of delivery if the item is unused and in its original, resellable condition. There is no handling fee; you arrange return shipping, and the original outbound shipping cost is deducted from the refund.

Once inspected, you may choose a refund or store credit.

Custom items (unique handles, engravings, custom profiles) and special orders are non-refundable. Natural variation in handmade knives (wood grain, damascus pattern) is not a defect.
