Japan trip 2014, Miki City, Tanaka / Nishihara workshop

Day 1:

Arrived Osaka Late, I woke up early the next day morning. Osaka skyline at dawn

The first stop was Mr. Nishihara's workshop, which is right next to Tanaka knife in Miki city, not far from Kobe.

Mr. Nishihara's workshop, Miki Custom Knife Guild

Mr. Nishihara is a well respected mentor in the knife making industry of Miki city, and his hunter knife is high sought after in Japan. I presented him with a huge block of highly figured Australian Ringed Gidgee, and he immediately cut a small piece to check it out :)

He was showing to us how to tell what is a good desert ironwood (that knife looks familiar? :D)

Loads of Desert Ironwood stock, which was bought back by the late Mr. Shigeki Tanaka from Mexico some years ago.

and I really enjoyed the persimmons!

As Mr. Tanaka himself wasn't there (Saturday), while checked out the Tanaka's workshop, I am not prepared to upload them here.
